WAGNER

DIE MEISTERSINGER

Schorr, Kullman, Jessner, Branzell, Laufkoetter

Chorus and Orchestra of the Metropolitan Opera / Leinsdorf

(2 December 1939)

This performance is enormously important in preserving Charles Kullman’s Walther, the Viennese soprano Irene Jessner and the famed Hans Sachs of Friedrich Schorr in the finest sonics ever heard in any broadcast from the 1930s. A cherishable performance with full broadcast commentary and the immense ovations which characterized this historic occasion. The album offers extensive texts about the performance, singers, conductor and composer, a newly written track-related synopsis, with Recording Notes and rare pictorials.
